Sons of the Citadel
Valyrian travelers, making their way around the western tip of Essos, were the first to stop on the isle of Lys for any length of time. What began as a stop to repair a breached hull eventually became a sort of vacation, as the Valyrians discovered that the island was near perfect in every way.
The weather on Lys is nearly perfect. Sunny, warm, with a light ocean breeze that is almost always the perfect balance of cooling and gentle, it is relaxing and easy to bear. The waters are clear, the beaches pink and white, and the fruit and small game abundant and flourishing. It did not take long for the wily Valyrian merchant on board the ship to return to Lys and set up a pleasure resort on the island.
The first slaves brought to serve the Lords Freeholder visiting Lys were chosen for their grace and beauty, and subsequent slaves bred or bought for the island resort have been true to this theme. The pillow slaves of Lys are renowned throughout the known world, and the slave population has taken on such an air of identity that those who seek to visit them or purchase them have taken to calling them “Lyseni” rather than Valyrian, so striking and unique are their qualities.
